Here are a few plumbing tips to get your week started off with ease:
1. Don’t Pour Grease or Oil Down the Drain
You won’t notice at first, but the grease and oil will build up over time.
A better option is to let fat solidify when possible, and throw away in the trash or compost bin.
2. Use a Strainer
Always use a basket strainer in every sink, to help catch food particles, hair, soap residue etc. from going down the drains that can potentially cause problems with clogs later on.
3. Know Where Your Main Water Valve Is
With all the things to keep track of as a homeowner, it’s easy to miss or not know where to shut your water off, in case of a pipe burst or water emergency. Getting to your shut off valve, and turning water off quickly, can lessen water damage to your home, until we can get there.
4. Make Sure Your Main Sewer Drain is Accessible
Your drain should be uncovered (no rugs or carpet) and easy to get to. Keep the general area free of holiday decorations, boxed items, old childrens toys, etc.
5. Avoid Chemical Drain Cleaners
Chemical drain cleaners are terrible on your pipes and plumbing. They are advertised as being quick, easy and fast working, however,
in the long run, drain cleaners will cause more harm and damage than good.
